I came to Home Tekna as a severe neglected child. None of my basic needs were met in order for me to reach my potential in all areas of development.
Home Tekna provided my need for shelter, clothes, water, food and warmth. Without this I would not have been able to attend school and to learn properly.
They provided in my need for safety. Both physically and emotionally. My need to feel loved and to belong and to feel part of a group was fulfilled by the love and care of the care givers at Home Tekna. I was respected and my feelings were acknowledge.
They taught me how to behave through reinforcement of good behaviour and modelling such behaviour. They created a healthy environment where I could cope with the stresses and conflicts of growth and development.
I was taught how to treat other children and adults and how to handle conflict and peer problems.
They gave me the space to grow and to love, to be joyful and to live and be strong.
I long to be with my own family and is sad that they don’t seem to love me or want to take care of me, but Home Tekna became my home and I feel loved and special to them and see the care givers and peers as my family.
I hope that every child that is neglected or abuse or abandoned in our country, can be placed in a Home like Tekna to feel safe and loved again.
