1 APRIL 2020, JOHANNESBURG — Charities Aid Foundation Southern Africa (CAFSA) has launched an emergency fund to support local Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) during this challenging period.
With the economic and health challenges emerging from the COVID-19 crisis, thousands of NPOs are set to be impacted by funding shortages, which will result in a reduction or discontinuation of services and dedicated staff losing their jobs.
For decades, NPO workers have played a crucial role in South Africa and we will need them even more than ever as the health and societal challenges of the coronavirus start to increase.
To keep these critical services going, CAFSA is mobilising support to make funding available to help NPOs who render essential services to the most marginalised individuals, groups and communities in our society.
We are calling on both individuals and corporates to donate. Details for donations are on our website: www.cafsouthernafrica.org.
CAFSA will process all donations and ensure that due diligence, governance compliance and reporting are fully implemented. CAFSA will further ensure that all donations are designated to validated beneficiary organisations. Donors will also be issued with Section 18(a) certificates for income tax purposes.
CAFSA is an independent non-profit organisation that promotes and facilitates effective giving, volunteering and social investment. It has been present in South Africa since 1997, and in 2000 it became a registered Section 21 not-for-profit and public benefit organisation.
While being a wholly South African organisation, CAFSA is also a Strategic Partner of the CAF Global Alliance, an international network of locally-led organisations working to grow giving and strengthen civil society. The CAF Global Alliance was founded by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), headquartered in the United Kingdom. This means that while CAFSA is an independent body, it has access to CAF’s skilled professionals, intellectual capital and value model.
CAFSA has over 500 validated NGOs nationwide on its database and several large high-profile corporate partners and donors.
We call all on individuals and corporates to join us in donating to this important initiative. In the spirit of Ubuntu and during these unprecedented times, we can stand together to flatten the curve and support those most in need.
